This strong and purifying breath is a Kundalini Yoga Pose that helps to detoxify the body. Breath of fire will quickly cleanse away toxins as you introduce lots of fresh oxygen to the body. This breath is wonderful to do in the morning as it energizes you for the day. The breath is done through the nose.

When to Use It
  • First thing in the morning

How To
  • Sit crossed legged
  • Sit with spine straight and chest lifted
  • Take a deep breath through the nose into the belly (on the inhale the abdomen should fill with air and expand, moving away from the diaphragm)
  • Exhale out the breath through the nose (on the exhale the abdomen should move towards the diaphragm)
  • Continue the same inhale and exhale evenly with no breaks
  • The naval should be pumping out as you breath in and pumping in as you breath out
  • The breath can be slow at first and you can increase your speed as you feel comfortable
  • Breath in this posture for 3 minutes
Tips
  • The rhythm of the breath is like a dog panting
  • The breath should be done loudly so that the person sitting next to you can hear you
  • Close your eyes
Contradictions
  • Do no perform the breath of fire on the first 3 days of menstrual period
  • Do not perform the breath of fire if you are pregnant (instead do slow deep breathing)
